Are Kids Movies Getting More Violent?

Published by homeschooling at 9:13 pm under Movies Edit This

Kids went to see the latest Narnia movie - The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian As i was in the first one, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe I was really taken aback at the violence- it seemed more like Lord of The Rings than a Disney movie.

Lots of terrifying creatures, Orc-like things and heavy themes for small children.

I am not against violence or violent movies- just so odd that this one is SO over the top an marketed to really young kinds. When The later harry Potter;s came out people were taking about how frightening they might be- well I just don’t see the comparison. You are not taking many 4.5 year olds to recent harry potter movies- most people any way. These Narnia movies are too violent to be marketed to preschoolers.

Am I crazy? I am pretty liberal but this has me a bit mystified.

Again, another movie I haven’t seen. But from your description, I wouldn’t take my young kids - so thanks for the warning! As you know, young kids are very impressionable. As mothers, naturally, we are concerned about our kids eating healthy meals. We want them to learn good eating habits. We want our kids to be physically fit/healthy. I think about what they “feed” their minds and hearts, too. Are some of these movies or tv programs really “healthy” eating for young kids? Could a “violent” movie/program be teaching a child to embrace violence as the only solution to problems? (food for thought) You know, when my 4 kids are getting along together in peace, everyone in the family is happy! It’s a good moment, day!-lol That’s what I want my kids to learn - how to get along…I think all mothers do…wouldn’t it be great to raise your kids in a world where people know or have been “taught” how to do just that - a “peaceful” world. It has to start some place, right? So, I want to encourage my kids to make or learn to make healthy eating choices both physically and mentally. We all enjoy sweets but if it’s not limited - what eventually happens? So, what could happen (to a young person) if “violent” movies/programs aren’t limited? Enough from me, thanks again for the post about the movie - Chato’s wife
