Are Kids Movies Getting More Violent?

Published by homeschooling under Movies Edit This

Kids went to see the latest Narnia movie - The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian As i was in the first one, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe I was really taken aback at the violence- it seemed more like Lord of The Rings than a Disney movie.

Lots of terrifying creatures, Orc-like things and heavy themes for small children.

I am not against violence or violent movies- just so odd that this one is SO over the top an marketed to really young kinds. When The later harry Potter;s came out people were taking about how frightening they might be- well I just don’t see the comparison. You are not taking many 4.5 year olds to recent harry potter movies- most people any way. These Narnia movies are too violent to be marketed to preschoolers.

Am I crazy? I am pretty liberal but this has me a bit mystified.

Watched a Great Movie Last Night

Published by homeschooling under Movies Edit This

Enchanted (Widescreen Edition)

We watched a really good family movie last night, Enchanted with Patrick Demspey. Finding a GOOD family movie to watch has been hard lately. The last half decent one was Ratatouille and even then I was grossed out about RATS. That was actually the one HUGE negative for me in Enchanted- i do not fins rats cute or charming or sweet or anything and I had to leave room when they came on on- was actually pretty disgusting. The rest of the movie more than made up for it. My husband cringed a bit during the movie but we all thoroughly enjoyed it. I would say it was one of the better “family” movies that we have watched this year.

Some other family movies that i thought were okay- excellent good that we have seen this year- Stardust ( excellent) , Penelope ( okay) HATED HATED HATED The Water Horse, Ratatouille, Horton Hears a Who.
